Postcard Linen Royal Gorge Suspension Bridge D&RGW Railroad Colorado 1930s

Royal Gorge, Colorado, USA1938LinenExcellent

From the floor of the Royal Gorge, a D&RGW passenger train hugs the Arkansas River's edge as the world's highest suspension bridge — a slender white ribbon of engineering — spans the impossibly narrow canyon mouth 1,053 feet overhead, the contrast of human ambition and geological grandeur rendered in the rich, saturated hues of a classic Curt Teich "C.T. Art-Colortone" linen card. The Royal Gorge suspension bridge, completed in 1929, held the title of world's highest for decades and became one of Colorado's most iconic tourist attractions. This card, published by Deseret Book Company of Salt Lake City and printed by the celebrated Curt Teich & Co. of Chicago, carries the standard "Place One Cent Stamp Here" instruction — dating it to the era of the one-cent domestic postcard rate (pre-1952). The back text eloquently describes the canyon channel as "about 40 feet wide" and the granite walls rising "2,500 feet above the floor." An unused, unposted example in very presentable condition.
