Antique & Vintage Postcards

Four lush prickly-pear blossoms unfurl in shades of dusty rose and warm gold against vivid green paddles in this striking hand-tinted linen postcard titled "Cactus in Bloom, Florida" — a classic piece of Sunshine State boosterism that turned an ordinary roadside plant into an almost painterly floral fantasy. Jax News Co. of Jacksonville produced thousands of these colourised linen cards in the 1930s and early 1940s, capturing Florida's flora for tourists hungry for a souvenir of the exotic South. The card is unused, its reverse showing the characteristic foxing and tanning of aged linen stock, along with the Jax News Co. "House of Service" circular stamp — a small but charming publisher's mark rarely noticed by casual collectors.
