Antique & Vintage Postcards

Water lilies in pink, yellow, and coral float on a still reflecting pool edged in rough limestone while tall palms frame a shimmering glimpse of the Intracoastal beyond — this linen gem of Daytona Beach's Waterfront Park radiates the languid charm of a Florida summer circa 1940, and it was mailed that very July by a visitor named Robb, who wrote to his mother Mary back in Louisville, Kentucky, that "the sunset last night was beautiful; the night was cool and comfortable for sleeping and I did a plenty of sleeping too. I am eating a plenty of fish, drinking a lot of cold orange juice and having a good time." Cancelled at the Daytona Beach post office on July 1, 1940, and franked with a 1-cent green Washington definitive, this well-travelled card is a warm, human-voiced time capsule of pre-war Florida leisure.
