Sent on a June day in 1913 from Cedar Falls, Iowa, this early black-and-white postcard documents the imposing Auditorium and Office building of the Iowa State Teachers College — today the University of Northern Iowa — when the campus was still growing into its identity as the Midwest's premier teacher-training institution. The photograph captures the building's confident Romanesque-influenced stonework alongside a turreted older structure, a chimney stack, and young saplings lining a quiet street. The handwritten message, penned by someone who signs as "Harold" and "Snow," is addressed to Miss Nettie in Loyalsock, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, and mentions "our last day tonight" at 12:40, a recital or performance, and that the Normal school was attended by "over 1600 students" — a vivid slice of collegiate life a century ago.
