Antique & Vintage Postcards

Golden autumn maples and their mirror-perfect reflections frame the tiered cascade of the Merriam, Hall & Co. mill dam in Leominster, Massachusetts — a fleeting pastoral scene from a city already becoming the "Comb Capital of the World" for its plastic and celluloid manufacturing. Postmarked Leominster, November 30, 1907, and received in Nashua, New Hampshire, this card carries a cheerful note from Maggie to her friend Katharine at 13 Manchester Street: "I will not see you Sunday — I am going with Jand[?]" — a social life glimpsed in a single ink-scratched sentence over a century ago. The Robbins Bros. / Germany chromolithograph printing gives the mill pond an almost Impressionistic shimmer, its rich fall palette painstakingly rendered in layered color separations.
