Antique & Vintage Postcards

A lone white pine leans dramatically over a moon-gilded Platte Lake near Beulah, Michigan — the full yellow disc burning through a moody indigo sky in that lush, slightly hyper-real palette that defines the golden age of linen postcards. Dated July 4, 1948, and postmarked Beulah on July 6, this card carries a wonderfully candid vacation dispatch from Myra to Mr. and Mrs. J.L. D— at 436 S. Wayne Street in Kenton, Ohio: "Against our better judgment we again made our annual trek… We have such a house full it really takes the cooking… We see a lot of deer (and snakes)… All about the same as at home except Dorth is sick today from too much sun. She should learn by now." Holiday camaraderie, family chaos, and sunburned relatives — 1948 summer in northern Michigan, perfectly preserved.
