Antique & Vintage Postcards

Pedestrians in Edwardian dress stroll past the Fontana del Moro at the southern end of Piazza Navona in this hand-tinted early 1900s postcard — the elongated oval of the piazza stretches northward behind them, Sant'Agnese in Agone's dome and twin bell towers rising above Palazzo Pamphilj in a scene little changed from Borromini's 17th-century design, though the gaslit street lamps and fashionable crowd anchor it firmly in the Belle Époque. The card is in distressed condition, with significant surface cracking and water staining on the reverse, but the vivid hand-coloring — turquoise sky, terracotta facades, golden stonework — has survived with striking warmth. Piazza Navona postcards from this era remain perennially collectible as among the most iconic views of Baroque Rome.
