Postcard Harold Lloyd Sailor-Made Man 1922 Kings Queens Movie Series Embossed

United States / Scandinavia (mailed internationally)1922Pre-linenFair-Good

Grinning ear to ear in his trademark round spectacles and a jaunty sailor's cap, Harold Lloyd radiates pure silent-era joy on this wonderfully decorative early Hollywood fan postcard — issued in 1922 to promote his landmark comedy A Sailor-Made Man, the film that cemented Lloyd's status as a major star and introduced the daring physical comedy that would define his career. Published by Max B. Sheffer Card Co. of Chicago as part of the "Kings & Queens of the Movie Series," the card features an ornate embossed theatrical border with comedy-and-tragedy masks, tassels, and curtain swags framing Lloyd's photograph — a design as theatrical as the man himself. The reverse was mailed — bearing a 9-cent U.S. stamp — and postmarked at what appears to be a Scandinavian postal station (Kronprindsens Gade Sta.), suggesting this card traveled internationally, perhaps carried by an American abroad or mailed to a film enthusiast overseas. The sender, signing as "Dick Lee," writes chatily to Harry at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. about silent movie stars and the indifferent weather, noting that "Hoover" (likely Herbert Hoover, then Commerce Secretary) has been mentioned around the office.
