Antique & Vintage Postcards

From a hilltop vantage point above Wildenstein, the entire spa town of Bad Ischl fans out across the Salzkammergut valley floor in this richly toned 1932 real-photo postcard — the river glinting between rows of bourgeois villas, a prominent church tower anchoring the town center, and snow-dusted alpine peaks closing the horizon. Bad Ischl had been the summer retreat of Emperor Franz Joseph for over sixty years, and even in the interwar Republic the town retained its imperial elegance, drawing health-seekers and hikers alike. Publisher Erich Bährendt, whose photo-printing workshop was based right in Bad Ischl, produced some of the finest silver-gelatin scenic cards of the region; the "Echte Photographie" (genuine photograph) stamp on the reverse confirms this is a true RPPC, not a halftone print. The card was numbered 17 in Bährendt's catalogue and printed in 1932, capturing the valley at the height of the interwar tourist season.
