Antique & Vintage Postcards

Standing before the ornate Baroque fountain of Salto del Agua — once the grand terminus of Mexico City's colonial aqueduct — a couple in Porfirian-era dress pauses in conversation while a child perches on the stone basin nearby; behind them, the whitewashed facade of a Gran Fábrica de Puros cigar factory stretches along the unpaved street, its painted advertisements still legible. This hand-colored lithograph postcard, registered by publisher J.K. as card 37, captures the fountain at a pivotal moment: by the Revolution it would be marooned in an increasingly chaotic streetscape, its aqueduct function long obsolete. The "Republica Mexicana / Republique Mexicaine" back format with Union Postale Universelle side panels dates this firmly to the pre-1907 undivided-back era, making it one of the oldest cards in this batch.
