Postcard 1930s Linen Bridal Chamber Cave of Winds Manitou Colorado Sanborn

Manitou Springs, Colorado, USA1938LinenExcellent

Gleaming stalactites hang like cathedral organ pipes above a dreamlike forest of stalagmites in this richly colored linen-era postcard of the Bridal Chamber inside Cave of the Winds, one of Manitou Springs, Colorado's most celebrated natural attractions — the vivid yellows, purples, and rusts of the formations rendered in the saturated lithographic palette that made linen cards the golden age of American travel imagery. Cave of the Winds, discovered in 1880, became a commercial tourist destination in the 1890s and drew thousands of visitors traveling through Ute Pass toward Pikes Peak. The Bridal Chamber, with its exceptional density of formations, was consistently marketed as the cave's showpiece room. This card, published by Sanborn Souvenir Co. of Denver, was never mailed and retains outstanding linen texture and color saturation.
